you could atproto this but i like the anonymity because academia tends to be this ugly pecking order thing
you could do like “we’ll spin up a repo for IP address” but you’re kinda forcing it at that point
and anyone making it that isn’t the journal is gonna be in IP headache forever and not worth it so
that public annotation thing would be super cool though, and it would be seriously fantastic if there was some kind of atproto shaped thing that people could do academic references with. like really enjoying a passage and chasing backlinks on it would be so fucking sick
and just having like “here’s my repo of publications that’s not just like whatever i include on my shoddily strewn-together website” would be great, atproto is nice because it can practically centralize references without centralizing authority, it’s inconvenient and terrible going between services
