reading a few of the reviews of Otaku JDP, it seems like a lot of people are missing the point that he's analyzing a new mode of *consumption*. sure, the objects lend themselves to this consumption, as a whole subculture has been created around it, but that doesn't mean that every work will be.
I don't think theoretically the book exactly hits the mark, but it's a constructive stumble in the right direction. I think there's charm in using Kojeve's footnote but I don't think its the most productive ground to start from
