this was to make the point that there is no equality in the abstract, there is only equality on particular dimensions, and that achieving equality in one respect will likely cause an inequality in another respect.
i feel like their point is often misinterpreted (ex. article). they aren’t saying “you can never describe any two things as equal in some ways” but rather that it’s most obfuscating than helpful, and will lead you into theoretical moralistic knots while in reality the demands are quite concrete
“abolition of wages” is more enlightening, clear, and less co-optable than “equality of classes” or “fairness” or whatever other bourgeois virtue
