Alt Text

stay strong bestie
of course there are considerations of quality and contextual awareness in things like automated alt text and it’s tasteful ux implementation, but those are largely empirical. whats really interesting and revealing is the judgements of acceptable conditions and the arguments used to support them
to be concrete like, “it should always be human guys makin it, even if that means only 10% of images get alt text”, and you can justify that with “low quality” but then you’re up against improvements, or challenged with “isn’t something better than nothing?” which to be fair might not be true!
also empirical largely, or even just boring preference. but there’s another angle where you can talk about how it would be corrosive to a community to even have the option, which no one is making, but would be a lot more interesting
