i also think time is really underutilized - like yeah it can be super cool to have a bunch of shit happen at once and flipping between tabs and woooah action! but also a lot of using computers is p slow and mundane and i think it'd be cool to have those moments included too, if for no other reason
than to create contrast with the busy moments and create suspense. look i'm clearly an idiot and have no idea what i'm talking about when it comes to film but i've seen a few moments and techniques that really excite me and i'd like to see more
lmao how did anyone think Ratter was a good idea. it's boring, says nothing, actually just worthless lol
Host was actually really well done. I mean the jumpscare/loud noises ghosts horror (so the actual plot ig lol) is pretty zzz but like technically what they did with the film is well executed
idek what to say about Spree. it was a maybe a little funny if you squint
just watched Dashcam, unfortunately

Language Lessons was nice (not quite great), i wish there were more multilingual media
the reasons it wasn't great were mostly plot related tho, i liked the cinematography (simple is sometimes better!). and to clarify, it was a largely enjoyable movie, just wasn't saying anything distinctive or significant or resonant
while the things i'm pointing out aren't wrong, i feel like theyre not reflective of the fact that i broadly generally thought it was a charming film
The Collyingwood Story was bad but cool for being early adopter ig
V/H/S 2012 was actually really good - its just found footage horror anthology (defi don't think its quite Screenlife) but i liked it lots. Amateur Night was my favorite by far, followed by 10/31/98.
Safer at Home was just god awful. Am I supposed to be rooting for patriarchy's strongest soldier? and a stupid one at that like wtf is ur plan buddy. also with her not breathing: either 1) the protagonist is REALLY stupid or 2) its plot convenience nonsense. i don't care abt any of the characters
the pandemic screenlife films have been universally bad so far, they're so so so limited and narrow and myopic. also the broader point in SaH abt the pandemic is super unclear. haha Trump bad and also lockdowns are authoritarian and police are corrupt,, ig? if that was the point it was really sloppy
i'm actually unbelievably disappointed. i just finished SiRen 2016 (based off of Amateur Night from V/H/S) and wow what a horrendous let down. Completely betrayed the vision and meaning that could be found in the original, replaced with slop. the fact there was a ringleader alone is egregious
