Then again I feel like that whole “over someone” is very serial monogamy logic and I’m not sure if that was something I have been or should be aiming for
this is @ "rethinking economic returns" especially. like "we need a new accounting system to include all different types of work and need to get rid of the barrier between private and public returns" and its like ya thats great i agree but how do you expect that to manifest
oh also i should be clear ofc ofc they arent critical enough of coercive education, even tho they do have better takes than most (quote from sam carr's research)
dont get me wrong theres much better stuff to learn from them than 90% of other things, but it can be very confusing and almost utopian imo to think that those reforms can be made and stay in place while keeping the economic base
like clearly theyre partially aware, i just think its way way way too optimistic to think that people will go to bat for your new human capital model enough to combat the propaganda and hegemony of capitalists and the state but keep shootin shooter
alright but yeah fr tho very very good values throughout, not perfect but im only getting so upset bc i feel like theyre so close to me but minor differences yk? but fr very good book
like i feel like theres really strong principles and perspectives, but a bit too much optimism about the capitalist state being able to adopt and maintain this vision
maybe useful for people agitating and pressuring, and definitely helpful to get people to see better possibilities, i just worry about its realistic limitations for implementation
again tho this is kinda inherent to a work like this, so im not saying they should have done this differently, just like thinking about future ideas building off
like im always skeptical of ideas that are like "we need to do better at incorporating x into this system" and its like yea ok but youre not proposing a material method for how that can continually be brought about, so instead it will just be eroded for purposes of profit/power
obv a bit workerist, statist and market oriented, but really great short term ideas, and way to bridge between contemporary neolib econ and more leftist perspectives
oh and i should add more context: this was 2nd meeting ever, this is their first semester club. also an example of what the guy said came to mind about why i hated his takes lol
he literally thought that if patients messed up tracking their biometrics and the AI diagnosed incorrectly and gave wrong prescription and the patient died - thats just the mistake of the patient and thats their bad. like ??? what horrendous individualistic cringe posting whats
wrong with you. I made it clear i wasnt saying we should blame to AI or even anyone in particular, but he wasnt even interested in having like some failsafe thing to make sure shit like that didnt happen, was just totally uninterested.
And she thought that was a really good idea and we chatted with McKenna (other exec) about how I found out about the club and about how it was a scuffed night and it just all felt really natural it was great!! Felt supa confident :))
I also talked a bunch (not dominating amount) which was cool! Oh I forgot to mention when I ended convo it was cool and felt rly good. While ppl were leaving they were like trying to get ppl to come back and reassuring it’s normally better etc
But yeah the best part I think was at the end when everyone else was leaving and I asked a question to Emily about sending the case studies before meetings so people could read them (I like doing that and also there was lots of confusion among ppl about exactly what the case was)
We basically had a discussion on a case study about AI replacing healthcare providers. They planned for it to be a debate thing where people argued for an assigned side but it quickly broke down lol
But it’s super cool that the execs were like super go with the flow and chill. Also they had good takes!!! Really interesting talking ethics with ppl with more specific knowledge about an area bc they’ll catch things I won’t
Like for ex I was like well AI doesn’t have the ability to be conversational and answer clarifying questions like people can and Emily was like yeah but do physicians (don’t know the word) even do that now? Like I’m super divorced from reality of practice and it’s cool to be
But!!! The 2 exec ppl were super chill and I had great interactions with them back in forth and had super chill convo after but I’m getting ahead of myself
Only 6 people, and 2 were exec ppl. 1 freshman was totally quiet the entire time, 1 freshman was like… ok maybe this is ableist but I think they were on the spectrum (I wanna say not in bad way!! But don’t wanna just be coping)
