My third and final point is that, as Nietzsche argues, self-knowledge itself may not be as important in all contexts as philosophers have made it out to be. Much more important is creative activity, the invention and production of something new, and this does not necessarily always require a high degree of self-knowledge; in fact it is often associated with a blindness to the self, to delusion about the world and to various forms of divine madness.

Second, if you are interested, as philosophers have traditionally been, in self-knowledge, neither introspection nor dialectical conversation nor some combination of both are a via regia. Rather, what you should be looking for is locating yourself in your local context and the historically given patchwork of fatherlands and their associated tables of value, while maintaining cognitive distance to all these tables. The best way to do that is to look at your home with the eye of the foreign traveller. Herodotus (and then Herakleitos and Brecht) are better models than Socrates.

wait what happen

walking around outside with the gray sky overhead, waving my arms and swaying my hips to the sounds in my headphones

i’m appreciating corporeality right now. the earth beneath my feet, the tension of my hair tie, the fabric wrapped around my limbs, the weight of a backpack on my shoulders - the joys of embodiment are magnificent.

Seeing my reflection doesn’t really help alleviate the feeling though, it doesn’t really feel like “me”. Even if it was me, why should my external appearance help the phenomenology of being me? I guess good to distinguish between dysmorphia proper and the disgust of having a body.
