this is the most normie feedback but do you have any thoughts about supporting boring old bsky urls? i know it be against the grain of atproto purity, but selfishly it’s annoying to convert a url to uri when i’m on mobile lol

my default behavior is to be cold and distant so the alternative path to self-improvement is to stick stubbornly to your ways and make it everyone else’s problem if they can’t hang

the above is framed harshly but honestly i don’t think there’s anything with not forcing yourself to feign interest or attention. personally id be more offended if someone humored me like that rather than simply ignoring me

i started using coconut oil a little while ago and it was such a game changer

my body is still feeling caffeinated more than 14 hours later

forgot how atrocious this stuff is for my sleep lol

the summary of my view is that equality is: 1: not philosophically generative, and is at worst incoherent 2: not necessary or useful for “progressive” political goals 3: actively harmful, misleading, and counterproductive when thinking about the social world

basically i think people like to have abstract moral commitments like equality to simplify things and feel like they have some bedrock to stand on. but, as sara’s bruenig article discussed, there is the looming question of “equality of what” as desirable.
and by the time one can specify “what” in anything resembling a convincing way, they will have had to pack in a whole bunch of contextually specified criteria.

however, this kind of undermines one of those primary appeals of equality, in the sense that it can no longer be some freestanding moral bedrock. i’m saying we’d be better off ditching the concept altogether, rather than trying to add bells and whistles to keep it afloat.

oh no not at all, i much prefer you share your mind, imo it’s cool that people are extra nice but sometimes it prematurely forecloses interesting convo tbh i was really impressed when you said you were confused before, i feel like most ppl would have just let it go to avoid potential embarrassment

sorry sorry basically a lot of people can get into left-of-center politics out of compassion for others, and things like “equality/equity”, “human rights”, “(social) justice” seem like good orienting principles to genuinely help people. but theoretically (i believe) those are dead-ends

and will eventually be a barrier to achieving meaningful change. so staying committed to those kinds of values can keep people trapped at a poor level of analysis, but thinking your way out of your own foundations is really tricky

oop sorry i hope i didn’t scare you off, fwiw i think it’d be interesting to listen to you talk theology stuff ^-^

i was gonna post the following but i hope it doesn’t seem overbearing “mhm i getcha, i just tend to think that we can do without it (and would be better off for it, as i see a rather great danger in abuse of appeals to concepts such as these for achieving political goals directly)”
raymond geuss, philosophy and real politics.

https://youtu.be/b2-Aw_C6xx4

most of this section is summarizing the marx/engels stuff above (humorously, both zoe baker and cuck philosophy made videos summarizing these few pages of geuss as well).

yea i generally like bruenig for cutting through the bullshit on things like this. not a fan of egalitarianism and “equity” discourse is an odd way to inject mangled contextualism into a moribund project

it’s hard because a lot of the moral and sympathetic intuitions that lead people to be interested in “the left” actually end up being a massive hurdle if you want to make any significant progress, both theoretically and practically

this is engels’ gothakritik. both marx and engels disliked equality as a political virtue, and a frequent rhetorical tactic of theirs was to reference equality and identity - that no two things could be equal *in all respects*, lest they be one and the same thing
1 replies
this was to make the point that there is no equality in the abstract, there is only equality on particular dimensions, and that achieving equality in one respect will likely cause an inequality in another respect.
i feel like their point is often misinterpreted (ex. article). they aren’t saying “you can never describe any two things as equal in some ways” but rather that it’s most obfuscating than helpful, and will lead you into theoretical moralistic knots while in reality the demands are quite concrete

“abolition of wages” is more enlightening, clear, and less co-optable than “equality of classes” or “fairness” or whatever other bourgeois virtue

my third favorite exchange is: “you have two older brothers” “yes and i believe both women are my same age”

engels thought all of his opponents were katie in disguise

i kept getting this earlier today too, glad i’m not the alone ig lol

a long time ago kasey blocked me on twitter because i was all up in her shit and she had to be mindful of it you could do the same thing i spose

nope it’s completely useless, it has to be repetition afaik

i discovered this while failing to make an arbitrary link lol. i accidentally swapped around byteEnd and byeStart values and for some reason it looks like this in the client lol "index": { "byteEnd": 0, "byteStart": 300 }

this is an example post with example text that exceeds three hundred characters. however, it actually does not exceed three hundred characters. if you click the reply button you will see a shortened version of this post (i believe it should be half the length actually). take a look at what i found!!this is an example post with example text that exceeds three hundred characters. however, it actually does not exceed three hundred characters. if you click the reply button you will see a shortened version of this post (i believe it should be half the length actually). take a look at what i found!!

to be honest i was expecting it not to make a link in the first place, but somehow it did and just the start/end index is screwy?
